It's where multiple people can use the same computer at the same time each with their own monitor, mouse and keyboard. This saves a lot of electricity and e-waste. A company called Userful recently set a virtualization world record by delivering over 350,000 virtual desktops to schools in Brazil. They have a free 2-user version for home use too. Check it out: http://www.userful.com

Re: PEER1 offers UK customers savings on UK hosting services

Managed hosting is meant for those websites that are designed to host busy e-commerce sites and dynamic, database driven Web pages. One is cross-vendor. I agree, what needs to happen is that open standards should be followed by all vendors, so that single management solutions can control everything.

The second challenge is cross-domain. Merging server, network, and storage makes sense when you've got a "medium" sized infrastructure. (Small infrastructures tend to be so acquisiton-cost centric, and "unified management" comes across as "too expensive".)

For a huge infrastructure, though, the network, servers, and storage are managed by different teams with different policies. The separate teams won't -- or can't -- manage things jointly. So there's not as much push to merge, say, networking and server management.

Re: Why I (blade boy) remain a 1u server fan

From my point of view the main problem for 1Uservers is their target market. This is the older iLO and (IIRC) currently running 1.91 or possibly 1.92. I can't reach the iLO https page or update the firmware via the version control update process. With my p-class blades, the issue won't be too bad since they include a chassis with the replacement system board, but I can understand not wanting to change your DL boards. Hopefully someone has a better solution.
On a side note, upgrading to 1.93 cleared out my bogus red health indicator lights on multiple p-class :-)

Re: HPONCFG - the HP ilo command utility

The link provided is broken - can you update the link?
